Burnaby Central Railway Miniature Train

According to many people, Burnaby Central Railway is a great place to take your little (or big) train enthusiasts.

I heard about Burnaby Central Railway last summer but for one reason or another, we never made it out that way. It's mostly because Burnaby Central Railway is only open on weekends and statutory holidays, and our weekends are usually packed with activities.

We started off our Sunday with an Easter egg hunt. Our little man found all the eggs and Smarties (made in a peanut free facility) that the Easter Bunny had left him. By the end of the egg hunt, he was getting the hang of it and was quite excited about the whole process. So much so that he decided to crack open an egg. Thank goodness the Easter Bunny remembered to hard boil the eggs first so we managed to avoid a minor disaster.

After breakfast, we wanted to take advantage of the gorgeous weather and headed out to Burnaby Central Railway. We arrived shortly after they opened at 11 am.

Driving up, my husband saw the parking lots were full of cars and was worried that we would have a long wait ahead of us. So we rushed to the ticket stand.

After purchasing our tokens ($3.50 per person for anyone over 3 years old), we lined up to board the miniature train. After two minutes in the lineup, we were at the front of the line. I quipped to my husband that he was right to worry about the long lineup. :)

The miniature trains at Burnaby Central Railway are simply delightful. On the day that we went, they ran a few different trains to keep the line moving. All the volunteers who run Burnaby Central Railway were very cheerful and made our experience enjoyable.

All aboard!

The conductor drove throughout the 7 acre property, going over bridges, under tunnels, passing by natural forests adorned with cute gnomes and bear statues. We passed by many other miniature trains filled with train enthusiasts, young and old and it was evident that this place brought a lot of happiness for everyone. We were having so much fun that the 10 minute ride just flew right by.

I watched my little man's face light up in excitement as we rode on a miniature steam engine. (Let's not kid ourselves but my husband and I were equally ecstatic about riding on miniature trains!)

I have to say this is the best $3.50 I have spent on entertainment in recent memory.
